IRTS Radio News Bulletin Sunday 23rd February 2020


Silent Key

Leo Purcell EI6D from Dublin and Naas, on 16th February 2020 peacefully after a short illness in the wonderful care of the staff at St Vincent’s University Hospital. Beloved husband of Frances and much loved step-father of Denis, Allison and Conor. Leo was a past president of the IRTS in the 1960’s. He will be sadly missed by his wife, step-children, extended family and friends. May he rest in peace.

An urgent reminder: Following reports that holders of eircom.net email addresses will shortly incur a monthly charge for the use of their email address, we expect that a number of those who receive this news bulletin by email will want to change the email address to which the bulletin is sent. This can be done by sending an email to Joe EI7GY (contacts \at\ irts \dot\ ie) with details of the existing email address and new email address.

IRTS members who wish to change the contact details used for membership renewals and EiNews circulation should contact the Membership Records Officer, Dave EI6AL (memrecords \at\ irts \dot\ ie).


South Eastern Amateur Radio Group

The 2020 AGM of the South Eastern Amateur Radio Group will take place on Monday the 24th February 2020 in the Roanmore Social and Sports Centre, Cleaboy Road, Waterford at 8.00 p.m. sharp. As this is the AGM of the group all members are please asked to attend. New members or anyone interested in learning more about the group or amateur radio are as always very welcome to attend also.

Clubs/groups or individual traders who wish to attend the SEARG Radio Rally over the weekend of the IRTS AGM are reminded that tables must be booked beforehand. Tables which cost €5 per table for individual traders and free for clubs/groups must be booked as soon as possible but no later than by Friday the 13th of March 2020 in order to be guaranteed a place. EIDX Group

Reminder: As the EIDX Group (EIDXG) prepare for their upcoming activities, the group have organised a workshop/activity weekend as they maintain/service some of their equipment. Stopping for dinner and a social evening in the local village, all things radio will be discussed along with plenty of help/advice on hand.

This is an ideal opportunity and an open invitation for any newly licensed Amateurs or new recruits to get hands-on and learn how to build antennas, solder coax cables, repair masts etc.... and maybe even make some QSOs!

DX News

The DXpedition to the South Orkney Islands by the Perseverance DX Group is scheduled to continue until 6th March. They are using the callsign VP8PJ and up-to-date information can be found on www.sorkney.com QSL via M0URX OQRS.

Members of the Czech DX Group will be active from the Ivory Coast using the callsign TU5PCT from 24th – 29th February. They will be on 160 – 10m on CW, SSB, RTTY and FT8. QSL via Club Log OQRS.

Charles NK8O and Fred N8AX will be in Tanzania from 24th February until 21st March using the callsigns 5H3DX and 5H3AX. They will be mainly on CW with possibly some FT8 and PSK-31. QSLs go via NK8O.

Michael DF8AN will be QRV as C6AAN from the Bahamas from 23rd February – 1st March. He plans to be on 6 – 160m on CW, RTTY and Digi. QSLs go via his home call.
