IRTS Radio News Bulletin Sunday 9th February 2020

Following reports that holders of eircom.net email addresses will shortly incur a monthly charge for the use of their email address, we expect that a number of those who receive this news bulletin by email will want to change the email address to which the bulletin is sent. This can be done by sending an email to Joe EI7GY (contacts \at\ irts \dot\ ie) with details of the existing email address and new email address.

IRTS members who wish to change the contact details used for membership renewals and EiNews circulation should contact the Membership Records Officer, Dave EI6AL (memrecords \at\ irts \dot\ ie).


Phoenix Amateur Radio Club Rally

Reminder. The Phoenix Rally in Coolmine will be taking place on Sunday 16th Feb 2020. As usual the event will be a great opportunity early in the new year for hams from all over the country to meet up with each other again. Nominations

The IRTS Awards Committee would like to remind the winners of last year’s Cups and Trophies to please return them as soon as possible.

The IRTS is seeking nominations to the Committee for the coming year. Please forward your nominations to our Honorary Secretary Robert Brandon EI5KH. The Committee is also seeking nominations for “Awards for Services to the Society or to Amateur Radio”.


Amateur Station Licence Exam

A reminder that the next Amateur Station Licence Exam will be held on Thursday 7th May 2020 in the ComReg Offices in Dublin and at other centres if warranted by the numbers. The closing date for receipt of completed applications is Thursday, 23rd April 2020. See www.irts.ie/exam for full details on how to enter for this exam. This page also includes links to the exam syllabus, the Course Guide and other study material. Exam candidates who feel they could benefit from assistance with any aspect of the syllabus are invited to contact Robert Brandon EI5KH, Secretary of IRTS, who will try to put them in touch with a radio club in their area that may be able to help. Robert's contact details are on the IRTS web site.


Limerick Clare Amateur Radio Club

The next meeting of LCARC will be the club AGM and will be held, as usual, in Limerick Institute of Technology on Thursday 13 February starting at 7:30 P.M. All are welcome.

A note for your diary, the LCARC Rally will be held on Sunday the 15th March, at the usual venue, the Radisson Hotel on the Ennis Road. Doors open at 11:00.


South Eastern Amateur Radio Group

A reminder that tickets for the IRTS AGM Gala Dinner on Saturday the 18th of April at 7:30 p.m. will be available to purchase at the Coolmine Radio Rally on Sunday the 16th of February. Tickets are priced at €35 each and will be available at the rally from David EI6GVB and Sean EI2HZB.

Clubs/groups or individual traders who wish to attend the SEARG Radio Rally over the weekend of the IRTS AGM are reminded that tables must be booked beforehand. Tables which cost €5 per table for individual traders and free for clubs/groups must be booked as soon as possible but no later than by Friday the 13th of March 2020 in order to be guaranteed a place. EIDX Group

As the EIDX Group (EIDXG) prepare for their upcoming activities, the group have organised a workshop/activity weekend as they maintain/service some of their equipment. Stopping for dinner and a social evening in the local village, all things radio will be discussed along with plenty of help/advice on hand.

This is an ideal opportunity and an open invitation for any newly licensed Amateurs or new recruits to get hands-on and learn how to build antennas, solder coax cables, repair masts etc.... and maybe even make some QSOs!

DX News

Yuris YL2GM and Eugene EA5EL are QRV from Nepal until 16th February as 9N7AM. They can be found on all bands 160 – 10m on CW, SSB, RTTY, PSK, FT4 and FT8. QSLs go via Club Log OQRS.

Members of the Low Bands Contest Club based in the Czech Republic will be active as 5H4WZ from Pemba Island off the coast of Tanzania until 18th February. They are on all bands 160 -10m on CW, SSB, RTTY and FT8. Pemba Island counts as AF-063 for the Islands on the Air award. QSL via Club Log OQRS.

Edward K1EP will be on the Caribbean island of Montserrat using the callsign VP2MEP from 11th – 17th February. Look for him on the HF bands on CW, SSB and FT8. QSL direct to his home call.

Wolfgang DL5MAE will be paying another visit to Laos from 13th – 20th February. In his spare time he will reactivate his 3W2MAE callsign. He suffers from heavy local QRM and requests that callers bear this in mind when trying to contact him. His preferred QSL route is via the German QSL bureau.

Members of the Radio Club de Provins (F6KOP) will be in Palestine using the callsign E44CC until 17th February. They plan to operate on all bands 160 -10m on CW, SSB, RTTY, PSK and FT8. QSLs go via Club Log OQRS.
