Silent Key

IRTS would like to extend its condolences to the family and friends of the late Harry Boyle EI9BW. Harry passed away on Monday last at the age of 89 years, in the care of the staff of Raheny House, Nursing Home. He was pre-deceased by his wife of 67 years, Kathleen. He will be sadly missed by his sons John & Brian, daughters-in-law Sharon and Aoife, his extended family and all radio hams. His removal was on Thursday last to Fingal Cemetery. In his later years Harry preferred operating as a shortwave listener rather than transmitting. May he rest in peace.

Amateur Station Licence Exam

A reminder to potential candidates for the upcoming exam that the closing date for applications to sit this exam is Thursday 31st October 2019, which is just over a week from now. Full details, including entry procedure and how to pay the exam fee online are available at www.irts.ie/exam Note that it is necessary to download the application form from the web page and forward the completed form and the appropriate fee so as to secure a place for the exam.


DX News

A group of Czech operators are QRV from the Columbian island of San Andres until 27th October. The callsign is 5K0K and they are on all bands 160 – 10m. San Andres counts as a separate country for DXCC and as NA-033 for the IOTA award and QSLs go via Club Log OQRS.

A multi-national team will sign VP6R from Pitcairn Island until 1st November. They will operate all bands and all modes. QSL via Club Log OQRS. Pitcairn Island was where the mutineers from HMS Bounty made their home in 1790.

A three-man team will operate as VU7RI from the Lakshadweep Islands until 31st October. They will be on 80 – 6m on SSB, CW and FT8. QSL via Club Log OQRS.

Members of the Mediterraneo DX Club will start their next DXpedition on 21st October. The callsign will be D68CCC and the QTH will be the Comoros Islands in the Indian Ocean. They plan to be on all bands 160 – 10m until 2nd November.

Yosuke JJ1DQR will be on the air from Da Nang in Vietnam from 23rd October – 1st November. He will operate as 3W9QR mainly on SSB on 40 – 6m. QSLs go via his home call.
