Annual General Meeting 2017, diary date

A date for your diary: the 85th Annual General Meeting of the Irish Radio Transmitters Society will be hosted by the Dundalk Amateur Radio Society over the weekend of 8/9 April 2017, in the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Green Park, Dundalk. AGM Dinner tickets are now available to order from www.irts.ie/agm . The website has also been updated will full details about the 2017 IRTS AGM.

IRTS Awards Nominations

Nominations are being sought for "Awards for Services to the Society or to Amateur Radio" and "Awards to IRTS members for other Achievements.” Submissions are welcome and should be sent to Jim Holohan EI4HH, Awards Manager. Email holohaj2 /at/ hotmail.com.


South Eastern Amateur Radio Group

The 2017 AGM of the South Eastern Amateur Radio Group will take place in the Roanmore Social and Sports Centre, Cleaboy Road, Waterford on tomorrow night Monday 27th February at 8pm. sharp. All members are asked to attend. New members or anyone interested in learning more about amateur radio or the group are also very welcome to attend.

Shannon Basin Radio Club

The Shannon Basin Radio Club recently held its AGM in Roscommon. The following committee was elected. Chairperson EI9HX Pat, Secretary EI8IU Brian, PRO EI9HX Pat, Joint treasurers EI6IB Fergus and EI8IU Brian, Contest Manager EI6JK Mark, QSL Manager and Webmaster..EI6GGB Anthony.

Limerick Radio Club

There was a good turn out at the LRC AGM on Thursday 9th February. The following committee members were elected: Chairman, Simon EI7ALB; Hon Secretary, Harry EI2KL; Hon Treasurer, Tony EI2AW. Committee Members: Alan EI8EM; Michael EI2IX; Liam EI4GB; Liam EI7DSB. QSL Manager is Albert EI5HXB.

A reminder that Limerick Radio Club Rally will take place on Sunday 12th March 2017 in the Radisson Blu Hotel, Ennis Road, Limerick. Doors open at 11am. South Dublin Radio Club

The SDR AGM will take place this Tuesday 28th of February 2017 at 8.30pm. All members are asked to attend.

As part of Engineers week, there will be a talk on an Introduction to Amateur Radio for total beginners and also a quick guide to using the moon to bounce radio signals as part of an EME or Earth Moon Earth radio contact. This event is free and all are welcome. simply drop down on Tuesday 7th of March at 8.30pm

The equipment installed by club members at the National Space Centre was used to assist in a school contact between a French Astronaut and a French school recently. The equipment installed 3 years ago receives live video via the Amateur Television equipment on board the International Space Station. It was previously used during school contacts with the UK Astronaut Tim Peake.

Mills on the Air

Mills on the Air takes place during the second weekend in May when many mills in the U/K and the Netherlands will be open to the public. Our wish is to get as many mills as possible activated throughout the world. DX News

Peter HA3AUI returns to Guinea-Bissau in West Africa in early March for a few days and will reactive his J5UAP callsign. Operation will be mainly CW running 100w to a Spiderbeam. QSL via the on-line log on cqafrica.net.

Members of the Kuala Lumpur DX Team will sign 9M4IOTA from Tioman Island from 3rd to 5th March. This will count as AS-046 for the Islands on the Air Award and they will be on all bands 80m to 10m CW, SSB and digital. QSL manager is 9M2OOO.

Makoto JI5RPT will be QRV from Ogasawara Island signing JD1BLY from 7th to 10th March. He plans to operate 160m to 10m CW, SSB and digital. QSLs go via the home call.

A group of 6 experienced U.K. operators will be in Ghana from 7th to21st March using the callsign 9G5X. QSL via M0OXO OQRS.
