Cups and Trophies

With the AGM coming soon, the 2016 Cup and Trophy award holders are asked to return their awards as soon as possible, so that the Awards Curator Larry McGriskin EI9CN can prepare them for the new recipients at the AGM 2017 awards ceremony in Dundalk. Cups and Trophies can be returned to any IRTS Committee Member.


IRTS Awards Nominations

Nominations are being sought for "Awards for Services to the Society or to Amateur Radio" and "Awards to IRTS members for other Achievements. Submissions are welcome and should be sent to Jim Holohan EI4HH, Awards Manager. Email holohaj2 /at/ hotmail.com.


Annual General Meeting, diary date

A date for your diary: the 85th Annual General Meeting of the Irish Radio Transmitters Society will be hosted by the Dundalk Amateur Radio Society over the weekend of 8/9 April 2017, in the Crowne Plaza, Green Park, Dundalk. AGM Dinner tickets are now available to order from www.irts.ie/agm . The website has also been updated will full details about the 2017 IRTS AGM.


South Eastern Amateur Radio Group

The January meeting of the South Eastern Amateur Radio Group will take place in the Roanmore Social and Sports Centre, Cleaboy Road, Waterford, tomorrow night Monday 30th January at 8pm. New members or anyone interested in learning more about amateur radio are very welcome to attend.

EI DX Group

Members of the EI DX Group are pleased to announce details of their forthcoming DXpedition to Nepal. March 8th to 20th will see this 11 man, all Echo India team run up to 5 stations from 80 metres through 10 metres on CW, SSB & Digital.

Nepal is currently number 91 Most Wanted DXCC in the world and an amazing number 31 most wanted in North America. Operating from a QTH at 5,600' above sea level, the team are looking forward to intense pile-ups.

LRC 70 cms Repeater.

the existing 70cms repeater on Woodcock Hill was replaced on the 24th January with a Yaesu DR-1X C4FM repeater. The Tx/Rx frequencies remain the same i.e. Repeater Tx 433.125; Rx 434.725. No access tones are required - it is carrier only operated.

The ID is the same, EI7WHR at 16 wpm CW. The selected mode is Automatic Mode Select (AMS) i.e. normal analogue FM voice input to repeater, normal analogue FM voice output. Digital voice input to repeater, digital voice output. Reports are welcome.

The Limerick Radio Club rally will take place on Sunday 12th March 2017 in the Radisson Blu Hotel, Ennis Road, Limerick. Doors open at 11am. Tables are free and you are asked to contact Michael EI2IX on michaelkingston /at/ eircom.net . Please look up the website www.limerickadioclub.com


UKEICC

The next SSB contest organised by the UK & Ireland Contest Club starts at 8pm on Wednesday 1st February.

It's a one-hour event on 80m. You can work anyone, and the exchange is your 4-character locator square, for example IO63. There's no need to exchange 59. Scoring is based on distance, with points doubled for working low-power entrants and doubled again for working QRP entrants.

Logs have to be uploaded within 1 hour of the end of the contest - that's 10pm, and preliminary results will be posted within half an hour. Please join in and keep up the EI numbers in these events.


South Dublin Radio Club

Classes are continuing for the theory test for the Radio licence at the club and it’s not too late to join. Simply register your interest through the ‘contact us’ section of the website and show up this Tuesday from 8.30pm at the Ballyroan Community Centre on the Marian Road in Rathfarnham in Dublin.

Phoenix Rally

The Phoenix Amateur Radio Club Rally takes place on Sunday 19th February in the Coolmine Community School, Grove Road, Blanchardstown. Doors open at 10am. In recent years, the Phoenix rally has been the only radio rally in the Dublin area, so it is always well attended. To book a table contact Tony at 087-243 9997.


DX News

A group of Italian operators will activate the callsign TL8TT from the Central African Republic from 1st to 14th February. Activity will be on all bands 160 – 10m. Logs will be uploaded to Logbook of The World.

Leo PP1CZ returns to Fernando da Noronha Island from 3rd to 8th February. He will be on the air with the callsign PY0F/PP1CZ on 80 – 10m using mainly CW but also some SSB and RTTY. QSL via Club Log OQRS.

Harald DF2WO will be in Kigali, Rwanda from 3rd February until 11th March. He will sign 9X2AW and QSLs go via M0OXO.

To celebrate the Maltese Presidency of the Council of the European Union the callsign 9H2017EU will be aired until the end of June. QSL directly to 9H1SP.


Dundalk Amateur Radio Society - Shacks Photography Competition.

The 1st March 2017 is the closing date for the DARS photography competition. All entries must be submitted by 5pm on that date. As it is a photographic competition emphasis is placed on on a quality photograph. Any shack of any size is eligible from EI/GI or SWL stationed within Ireland.

You must email your photograph of no less than 1meg and no more than 3meg in jpeg format to myshack /at/ ei7dar.com

You must submit your shack photo alongside a small monetary fee of €5.

For your convenience you are asked to make the payment through Paypal, at www.ei7dar.com, payment via Postal Order/Bank Draft are also acceptable details issued on receipt of entree.

All entries are also entered for a raffle for a Handheld Radio.
