IRTS AGM 2016

Today, Limerick Radio Club will host the 84th Annual General Meeting of the Irish Radio Transmitters Society. The venue is the Radisson Blu Hotel & Spa, Ennis Road, Limerick. The usual radio rally will take place today also.

Amateur Station Licence Examination

The next Amateur Station Licence Examination will be held on Thursday, 2nd June in the ComReg Offices in Dublin and at other centers if warranted by the numbers. Quite a few applications have been received so those intending to sit the examination should apply very soon. Full details, including entry procedure, examination fee and how to pay the fee on line are available at www.irts.ie/exam . Please note that it is necessary to download the application form from the web page and forward the completed form and the appropriate fee so as to secure a place for the examination.

If you pay the fee on line you must still complete and forward the application form.

The closing date for receipt of completed applications is Thursday, 19th May.

Three Exam Reports which were previously published in Echo Ireland are available on the Downloads section of the website at www.irts.ie/downloads under Studying for the Harmonised Amateur Radio Examination Certificate. These reports contain very useful information for anyone studying for the Licence Examination. Intending candidates are advised to pay particular attention to the syllabus for the examination especially Annexes 1 and 2.


2 Metres Counties Contest

A final reminder that tomorrow, Monday 11th April, is the latest date for submitting logs for the recent 2 Metres Counties Contest. Logs should be sent to contestmanager /at/ irts.ie The results of this contest will be published shortly after the log deadline.


Cork Radio Club

Cork Radio Club will hold their April meeting on Wednesday next April 13th at Carrigtwohill Community Centre, where Dave Deane EI9FBB will deliver his presentation on his DXpedition to activate an all new IOTA AF-119, Coetivy (Co-et-i-vy) Island S79C last November.

Dave recently travelled to Texas to the give this presentation at the annual IOTA Bash and he was in Stirling, Scotland last weekend at the GM DX Convention.

Along with Jeremy EI5GM, Dave will link up with members of the Bahrain Amateur Radio Group 2 weeks from now, to activate another new IOTA AS-202, Hawar Island. The Annual General Meeting of the Cork Radio Club will be held on Wednesday May 11th at 8pm. Enquiries to Dave EI4BZ on 087-6290574 or ei4bz /at/ eircom.net


DX News

Svein LA9JKA will be back on Jan Mayen Island signing JX9JKA from 12 April until early October. He will operate on all bands 160m to 10m. QSLs go directly to his home call.

Tom KC0W will be active for several months as KH8/KC0W from American Samoa starting 12th April. This will be a CW-only expedition and cards go to his home QTH in the U.S.

The founder of ClubLog, Michael G7VJR, will be QRV as VK9L/G7VJR on Lord Howe Island from 15m to 20 April. His plans are to use 100w CW to wire verticals. QSLs will be dealt with by M0OXO using OQRS.

A multinational team lead by Juris YL2GM will be on the air from Iran as EP2A from 16th to 25th April. Activity will be on all bands 160 – 10m. QSL via ClubLog OQRS.


International Marconi Day

International Marconi Day is a 24 hour amateur radio event held annually to celebrate the birth of Guglielmo Marconi on 25th April 1874. This year IMD will be held on Saturday 23rd April with many special event stations on air which count as points towards the Marconi Award. Certificates are available for both transmitting stations and SWL stations. A list of participating special event stations may be found at gx4crc.com/imd-stations/ A Facebook page is also available by International Marconi Day – GB4IMD in the search area.
