Silent Key – Peadar EI4W

The death has occurred of Peadar Joyce (Lenaboy Park, Salthill, Galway and Killeany, Inishmore Nov. 27, 2013 (peacefully), after a long illness borne with patience and fortitude at An Teaghlach Uilinn Retirement Home, Moycullen (Retired Post Master, Galway), pre-deceased by his loving wife Norah and much loved father and deeply mourned by his sons and daughters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, relatives and friends. Suaimhneas síoraí tabhair dó, a Thiarna.


The 2014 IRTS AGM hosted By The GALWAY VHF GROUP

March 22nd & 23rd 2014

The IRTS AGM and Rally will take place in the GALWAY BAY HOTEL on Sunday 23rd of March 2014 hosted by the Galway VHF Group.

Tickets for the IRTS Dinner, which cost 35 Euro, may be obtained from any committee member of the IRTS or from Steve EI5DD (0872451218). A special rate for accommodation is available from the Galway Bay Hotel if you mention the IRTS AGM Weekend when booking on 091 520520.

IRTS 80metres Counties Contest

The IRTS 80m Counties Contest takes place January 1st 2014, From 14:00 to 17:00 UTC. The deadline for the submission of logs is January 15th 2014. Full contest details are available on irts.ie


IRTS Christmas Greetings

The President, Officers and Committee of the IRTS would like to send all members, relatives and friends Seasons Greetings this Christmas time.


2013 World Telecom

Due to the very fine efforts of IARU Region 3 Chairman Gopal Madhavan VU2GMN and many of the other Region 3 volunteers, the IARU had a very nice booth at the 2013 World Telecom recently held in Bangkok. The Radio Amateur Society of Thailand (RAST) provided volunteers to help staff the booth during the event and also provided amateur radio equipment for the booth. IARU President Tim Ellam VE6SH made a presentation at Telecom in his capacity as an intellectual property attorney and was also present to work in the booth and greet many of the visitors to the IARU booth. Region 3 Director Peter Lake ZL2AZ attended the event and afterward participated with RAST in meetings with the Thailand telecommunication regulator related to new amateur radio regulations.


Phoenix Amateur Radio Annual Rally

Limerick – Radio Theory Classes

Radio theory classes in preparation for the next Amateur Station License will begin in January 2014. The classes will be held in Limerick City, and anyone from Region 4, which comprises Clare, Kerry, Limerick & Tipperary, are welcome to attend. DX News

Sigi DK9FN is making another trip to the Temotu Province of the Solomon Islands from 21 December until 10 January. Temotu counts as a separate entity for the DXCC Award. His callsign will be H40FN and activity will be mainly on CW. QSL to his home call.

Apollo SV2ASP/A the only amateur resident in the DXCC entity of Mount Athos lost all his antennas in a recent storm. It is hoped that he will be able to get back on the air before too long.

Three German operators are on a tour of Southern Africa. The planned activity is:- 22- 24 December 7P8DJ, 7P8WO and 7P8CE from Lesotho 24-30 December A25DJ, A25WO and A25CE from Botswana 31 December – 18 January V5/DJ2HD, V5/DH3WO and V5/DK1CE from Namibia

1A0KM (One Alpha Zero Kilo Mike) will be on the air from 2 – 7 January. This semi-rare DXCC entity is the Sovereign Military Order of Malta located in Rome. QSL manager is IK0FVC.
