Summits On The Air

Hans PB2T, who is IARU Region 1 President, was in Dublin during the week for a CEPT civil/military working group meeting, and took the opportunity to activate a few summits in the Wicklow hills. Accompanied by Joe EI7GY, Hans climbed Croaghanmoira and operated on 30 metres and 40 metres, attracting plenty of interest from local and continental European radio amateurs. Later in the day, Hans and Joe moved to Trooperstown and found contacts on the bands from 12 metres to 40 metres, including some Stateside QSOs. All in all, Hans had more than 80 QSOs from the two summits. Looking at the SOTAwatch spots for the day we see that Hans and Joe were not the only amateur radio operators on the Wicklow Hills, as Marek EI7KH was nearby on Little Sugar Loaf mountain.

AMsat UK – FunCube Satellite

On Thursday November 21st AMsat UK launched their FunCube satellite. This is a project aimed at schools science programmes. IRTS met with the European Space Agency (ESA) a couple of years ago with a view to putting together a transition year programme. As the IRTS involvement is still at the ’entry level’ proposal stage, we need people who are eager to get involved. Are you interested? For further details and enquiries please contact the IRTS secretary, Ger, ei4gxb/ at/ gmail /dot/ com.
