Silent Key

The death was recently announced of Robert W. Shaw EI2EL of Dublin Road, Longford. We express our deepest sympathy to his wife Noline and to his other family members on their sad loss.

May he rest in Peace.


IOTA Contest

In last week's bulletin we mentioned two planned entries for this contest, Ger EI5KF who will be on Bere Island and the Papa Lima DX Group on Inis Mór. We can update this information now: firstly the Papa Lima group will be using the call sign EJ1Y on Inis Mór. Also, another of the Aran Islands, Inis Oírr will host members of the Limerick Radio Club, who will use the call sign EJ0A, while two mainland operations have been announced - Declan EI9HQ and the East Cork Group EI7M.

The IOTA contest takes place from 12: 00 UTC on Saturday 27th July to 12:00 UTC on Sunday 28th July, and is a mixed-mode contest. The contest is sponsored by the Radio Society of Great Britain, which this year is offering a Centenary Commemorative Certificate to anyone submitting a log containing a minimum of 100 valid QSOs and 20 multipliers.


Limerick Radio Club

A team of operators from Limerick Radio Club will be taking part in the IOTA contest next weekend from Inisheer on the Aran Islands ITA Ref: EU-006, using the callsign EJ0A. The team will be on the island from 25-29 July.

Limerick Radio Club would like to congratulate club members Kieran & Felix on passing their exams recently and look forward to welcoming 2 new callsigns on the air.


Olivier ON4EI 7th to 31st July 2013

Olivier ON4EI is back to Ireland to operate EI8GQB/EI1A from a caravan using green energy. He will also activate EI1A callsign during:

-the CQ WW VHF contest July 20-21 (on 50 MHz only), -the Island On The Air contest July 27-28.

North Cork Radio Group & Radio Electronics Fair

The North Cork Radio Group is also pleased to announce that they will be organizing a Fox Hunt in County Cork on Saturday 14th September 2013. The purpose of this hunt is to find a fox in County Cork, by use of direction finding radio techniques using the 2-meter Amateur Radio band. The winner of the fox hunt is the team which finds the "fox" by the least mileage driven. The entry fee's are 10 euro per vehicle, and 70% of all money's received will be given as prize money. As this hunt is mainly based on receiving radio techniques to try to find the fox, this is open to everybody, including SWL's.

The NCRG will hold their radio rally on Sunday 15th September 2013. The event will be held at the Commons Inn, Blackpool, Cork and doors open at 11.00am.

ILLW is only a month away

The online registrations for the International Lighthouse and Lightship Weekend on August 17-18 this year stands at 350 - with more to come setting the scene for another record year. In the lead is Germany on 53, just ahead of Australia with 52. Those arch rivals are followed by the USA (40), England (31), Argentina (21), with Sweden and a lot of late interest from Malaysia (both 15). So far portable amateur radio stations are lined-up in 34 countries.


DX News

Andrea, IZ2LSC will be active as XF3/IZ2LSC from Isla Mujeres, NA-045 between July 24-31, 2013. Also some activity as XE3/IZ2LSC (mainland) from July 16-23 will be possible, but the main commitment is for the IOTA activation. QSL is direct: via EB7DX, Buro: via IZ2LSC or LoTW.

A small number of YO ham radio operators will be active as YP13S from Sacalinu Mare Isl EU-183 between July 24-29, 2013.QRV on 80-10m, CW & SSB. QSL via YO8AXP.
