IRTS AGM Awards

Duhallow Repeater Group..

The Duhallow Repeater Group have set up a FM Simplexer for the Four Meter band. The callsign of this simplexer is EI4SMR and operates on 70.375mhz FM.It is located on Musheramore Mountain, in north County Cork. The device was installed on Wednesday 11th June to enhance FM activity on the 4M band. Also back on air over the recent months is the Duhallow UHF repeater operating from the same site with a new antenna installed. EI7SMR operates on RU74, 430.925mhz, input is 438.525mhz (7.6mhz split) and requires a ctcss tone of 103.5Hz.


Dundalk Amateur Radio Society EI7DAR

Dundalk Amateur Radio Society EI7DAR will be operating a Radio Station from the County Louth Agricultural Show in Dundalk on Sunday 16th June, mostly operating 40m around 7.170 + or - qrm in the morning and all other bands throughout the day. Visitors to the stand would be made very welcome.


GB3WGI 144Mhz Beacon

The GB3WGI Transatlantic 144MHz amateur radio beacon went live at 1600 GMT on the 4th June in time for the peak of the 2013 Sporadic E season.


Tipperary Amateur Radio Group

On Thursday 6th of June last, members of the Tipperary Amatuer Radio Group met at Raheen House, Clonmel. A number of topics were discussed including up and coming events on the IRTS calender. Plans and arrangements for the VHF/UHF Field Day in July was the event discussed at length. Also in attendance at the meeting was Denny O'Dwyer, a SWL and a member of the Hillwalking Radio Group. Denny gave a very interesting talk on how 446mhz PMR radios were used by members of the Hillwalking Radio Group to assist the organisers of The Glen of Aherlow Walking Festival held over the June Bank Holiday weekend. Hillwalking Radio are a very active group and have participated in a number of similar events since its formation. South Eastern Amateur Radio Group

The South Eastern Amateur Radio Group will activate Kells Priory in County Kilkenny over the weekend of Saturday and Sunday 22nd and 23rd of June. Kells Priory has been assigned the CASHOTA number EI023/C and the WAI square S44 – Kilkenny. Kells Priory is unusual in that it consists of seven castles all within the same site. Its history can be dated back as far as 10th century and it has connections with Strongbow who was involved with the Norman invasion of Ireland.

On a different note the Committee and members of The South Eastern Amateur Radio Group would like to wish club member Michael Fitzgerald EI9GGB and his wife to be Laura the very best of luck as they tie the knot in the coming weeks. We wish both Michael and Laura the best of luck for their big day and may you have a long and happy life together.

Plans for the refresher sessions for those wishing to sit the next exam on July 4th have being finalized and are as follows. The three sessions will take place on Wednesday the 19th June, Wednesday the 26th June and the final one on Monday the 1st July. Further information regarding classes maybe obtained from Mark Wall EI7IS on 087 6302026 or from any SEARG committee member. Please note these are just refresher classes and not the entire syllabus for the exam.

The June meeting of the South Eastern Amateur Radio Group will take place in the Roanmore Social and Sports Centre, Cleaboy Road, Waterford on Monday the 24th June at 8.30 p.m. The meeting will be preceded by a committee meeting at 8.00 pm sharp and as always new members are very welcome.

Bushvalley Amateur Radio Club

The Bushvalley Amateur Radio Club will be Activating Kilrea Royal Observer Corp Bunker on Saturday 22nd June 2013 from 10.30am onwards using the club callsign MN0GKL.


North Cork Radio Group

The North Cork Radio Group will be active from Friday 21st - Sunday 23rd June to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Cork Grand Prix. The call sign used will be EI75GP. Bangor & District Amateur Radio Society GI3XRQ

The Bangor & District Amateur Radio Society will hold their annual summer radio rally on Saturday 6th July at 11.30am, at the Donaghadee Community Centre, BT21 OHE. Admission is £3.00. Further detail from Bill GI4AAM or visit www.bdars.com Everyone welcome.


Summits On The Air

Filip ON4TA has been activating Irish summits for a number of years, and is back again this year - enjoying somewhat better weather than on his previous visit! He started off on Arranmore Island Co. Donegal and then activated a number of the Mayo hills, including the Nephins. Filip has been using 4 metres and 6 metres as well as the HF bands.

Meanwhile down in Kerry we see that Luk DD1LD has been on the MacGillycuddy's Reeks, making the first ever activation of Cnoc na Péiste under the SOTA programme, and then heading on to the highest mountain in Ireland, Carrauntoohil. Luk's activations were on 30 metres and 40 metres CW.


DX News

Champ E21EIC will be in Laos from mid June until mid September. On previous visits he used the callsign XW1IC. This time he will sign XW0YJY. He will be QRV on all bands 160 – 2m. QSLs go via his home call in Thailand.

Three US amateurs, K4RX, AC4TO and N4SIA will be active from Guantanamo Bay from 22 – 29 June. Look for them on the air as KG4RX, KG4TO and KG4AS respectively.

Yuki JH1NBN is on a business trip to Bhutan where he will sign A52W until 19 June. He will operate in his spare time and run 100w to wire antennas. He will use mainly SSB on 40, 20, 17 and 15m.

Stations in Gibraltar are using the prefix ZB54 instead of the usual ZB2 until 27 June. This is to celebrate the fact that Gibraltar has become UEFA’s 54th member. UEFA is European Football’s governing body.
