News in Irish

The weekly radio news in Irish, which is read by Paddy Maher EI7GK on Sundays at 11.30 am local time is moving from 80 metres to 40 metres with effect from Sunday 9th June. The news frequency will be 7.128 MHz, which is 5kHz above the English-language 40 metre news frequency. As well as "as Gaeilge", call-ins in English are welcome to the news in Irish.


IRTS CW Field Day

This year the IRTS CW Field Day will take place on Saturday and Sunday June 1st/2nd. The deadline for the submission of logs is June 16th 2013.

Amateur Station Licence Examination

Many of the places for the upcoming Amateur Station Licence Examination have already been applied for, so anyone wishing to sit the examination should apply as soon as possible. The examination will be held on Thursday 4 July at 2.00 p.m. in the ComReg offices in Dublin. The examination may be held on that day at other centres where warranted by the number of candidates. Full details, including entry procedure, examination fee and how to pay the fee on line are available at www.irts.ie/exam . There is also an exam button on the home page. Places for the examination are limited and are being allocated on a first come first served basis. Please note that it is necessary to download the application form from the web page and forward the completed form and the appropriate fee in order to secure a place for the examination. If you pay the fee on line you must still complete and forward the application form. The closing date for the receipt of completed applications is Friday 14th June.


Italian Amateur Radio Association

Israel on 5Mhz

The Israeli telecomms regulator IMOC - the Ministry of Communications - has decided to grant 5MHz/60m temporary permission on an individual application basis only.


South Eastern Amateur Radio Group

The South Eastern Amateur Radio Group was active as EI2WRC/P from the Waterford Truck and Motor Show which was held at Waterford Airport on Saturday & Sunday the 18th and 19th May. The event was held to raise badly needed funds for The South East Radiotherapy Trust. The club was active on most bands and got plenty of QSO’s and a lot of interest from the general public as to what Amateur Radio is all about. The South Eastern Amateur Radio Group would like to thank Dennis EI2HSB, David EI6GVB and John EI3HQB for setting up the station and doing the event. A special thanks to junior SWL op Molly who was station manager for the day and kept the station running smoothly. The next monthly meeting of the South Eastern Amateur Radio Group will take place in the Roanmore Social and Sports Centre, Cleaboy Road, Waterford on Monday the 27th May at 8.30 p.m. The meeting will be preceded by a committee meeting at 8.00 pm sharp and as always new members are very welcome. Invitation to the IARU Region 1 50MHz Contest

The annual IARU Region 1 50MHz Contest, which will take place, as usual, on the third weekend in June (15th /16th June 2013). This year the contest evaluation co-ordinator will be adjudicating this contest. Contest rules are available in VHF Manager's Handbook V 5.42 – Chapter 5 or at www.vhfcontesten.nl

Logs in standard digital format (EDI, REG1TEST) shall be sent to: dl5nah/at/darc/dot/de. The deadline for this year is 4th August 2013.

Participants from countries that do not have VHF Manager or Contest Committees nominated can, by exception, send logs directly to the email: dl5nah/at/darc/dot/de (deadline: 24th June 2013)


European Space Expo

The European Space Expo is an exciting, interactive exhibition visiting Dublin in June. Hosted by the School of Physics, the spectacular Space Expo dome will be in Front Square, Trinity College and open to the public from 4th – 9th June. Inside the dome visitors will get to experience the wonders of space through interactive exhibits and will learn how space science can benefit us all. A public lecture entitled “Exploring the Radio Universe with LOFAR” with special guest speaker, Dr Anna Scaife, will take place in the Davitt Theatre, Arts Building at 5.30pm on Friday, 7 June.


DX News

Laci HA0HW is active as SW8WW from Thassos Island in Greece until 5 June. The IOTA reference is EU-174 and the callsign will probably be of interest to prefix hunters.

Svein LA9JKA will be QRV from Bear Island using the callsign JW9JKA for six months from mid-June. It will be a spare time operation on 160 – 4m. QSLs go via his home call.

Gerard ZS6AYU has been active from quite a number of southern African countries over the years. He travels to Mozambique from 28 May until 1 June and will be on the air as C91GR.

A group of Belgian amateurs will be on the Aland Islands until 7 June. They will operate as OH0/homecall using SSB/CW and RTTY
