Counties Contest

A brief reminder that the 2 metres counties contest takes place tomorrow, Easter Monday. It runs from 2.00 pm to 4.00 pm local time and uses both FM and SSB; the same station may be worked on both modes. The multipliers are the 32 EI and GI counties.

Note that there is a special QSY rule in this contest. After any QSO in which you are called by another station, you must QSY to another channel (FM), or by at least 3 kHz (SSB), before soliciting another QSO, so the station calling CQ or QRZ must QSY once a contact has been made, while the station answering the CQ or QRZ has the frequency for one more contact.

Please support this contest, either from home or from the hills. It's a good opportunity to work rare counties and touch base with old friends!

North Cork Radio Group

The North Cork Radio Group will be activating Mizen Head Visitors Centre again this year for Marconi weekend. The callsign, EI0IMD, will be on the air from 20th April - 22nd April inclusive. As you may know, Marconi Day is on 21st April this year and we will be operating over the full 24 hour period on this day in order that collectors of the Marconi Award will have the opportunity to add us to their list. Mizen Head is a beautiful location and well worth a visit.

The North Cork Radio Group are also pleased to announce confirmation of their annual rally, to be held on Sunday, 9th September 2012 at the Roebuck Room, Commons Inn, Blackpool, Cork. Doors open at 11am and admission is €5 per person (children are free, as per usual). Raffle tickets will also be available at the door. The usual traders will be present, and anyone wishing to reserve a table, or would be interested in setting up a stall, should contact Edwin Van Mierlo (EI2HEB) on 086 3885741 or via email at ei2heb/at/ei1nc.com. More details will be available in the coming months.

Based on the success of our previous rallies, we wish to confirm that all our future rallies will be held each year in September for the foreseeable years. This date will usually be on the Sunday between the GAA All Ireland Hurling and Football finals. All details concerning venue, times etc will be confirmed closer to these dates."

Gi2012MGY

A special event station located in Belfast from onboard the SS Nomadic - Titanics 'Little Sister'.

To mark the Centenery of the sinking of the Titanic, City of Belfast Radio Amateur Society ( CoBRAS ) will be QRV on most HF bands, CW and SSB, from onboard 'the Nomadic' from 12th - 18th April. The SS Nomadic is the only remaining historic link to the Titanic left afloat, and she is also the last surviving White Star Line vessel in the world. Like Titanic herself she was built at the shipyards of Harland and Wolff in Belfast, and served as a tender to the Olympic and Titanic. She is curently undergoing restoration work in the docks where she was built, adjacent to the new Titanic Belfast visitor attraction.

International interest in all things 'MGY' is reaching extraordinary levels - and the extremely rare Gi2012 prefix is sure to add extra interest from WPX hunters. CoBRAS members look forward to working many EI stations during the week of activity from onboard this unique ship.

Further information and QSL details can be found under Gi2012MGY at QRZ.com
