Next Theory Examination

The 21st of September is the closing date for applications to sit the next Theory Examination for an Amateur Station Licence which will be held on Tuesday the 6th of October at 2p.m in the ComReg Offices in Dublin. To reserve a place at the exam intending candidates should forward the appropriate fee to Sean Nolan EI7CD, 12 Little Meadow, Pottery Road, Dunlaoghaire, Co. Dublin.

The fee is 50 Euro or 25 Euro for full-time registered students, repeat candidates and those who are retired, unemployed or have a disability. Cheques and Money Orders should be made payable to the IRTS. When forwarding the exam fee intending candidates should enclose their postal address as well as phone and e-mail contact details. Intending candidates should note in particular, that in Section B of the paper – National and International Rules and Operating Procedures’- questions on the National Rules will be based on the new Wireless Telegraphy (Amateur Station Licence) Regulations 2009 which came into force on I June 2009. These Regulations and other matters in relation to the operation of amateur stations can be found in the ‘Amateur Station Licence Guidelines’ published by ComReg in Document 09/45 which is available on the ‘Publications’ section of the ComReg website at www.comreg.ie

IRTS 2m Counties Contest

Today is the date for the Autumn 2m counties contest. It takes place between 14.00 and 16.00 local. The full rules are available on the IRTS website under the contest tab.


70cms Activity Hour

To try to promote activity and see if it is worthwhile to run a 70cms Counties contest. We will be having a 70cms activity hour following the 2m contest today Both FM and SSB stations will be welcome and both Calling channels will be monitored.432.2 for SSB and 433.5 for FM users.


IRTS SSB HF Field Day

Next weekend is the annual IRTS SSB HF Field Day, full details and rules are on the IRTS website.


Limerick Radio Club

Members of Limerick Radio Club using callsign EI4LRC will be taking part in the IRTS SSB HF Field Day next weekend. A barbeque will also be held on-site weather permitting.

MRG Experimenter Radio Group

The MRG experimenter Radio Group VHF/UHF SSB Challenge 2009 will take place between 15.00hrs – 18.00hrs (local time) next Sunday 6th September.

Fixed section: 144Mhz & 432Mhz (SSB only)

Portable section 144Mhz & 432Mhz. (SSB only)

Any EI/GI operator holding an amateur/experimenter licence can participate. Closing date for logs is October 4h 2009. Please forward completed logs to ei2mrg /at/ yahoo.com Trophies will be presented to the winners of the fixed and portable sections later in the year. 4m Activity

Nick, G0HIK, with 2 friends, will be travelling to The Scottish island of "Isla" [IO65] for 1 week from September 12th.He hopes to be active for the 4M contest on Sunday 13th.

He will probably be working 150 Watts into a 7 element beam on 70 MHz, and possibly have 2M with a 13 element beam and 200Watts. In addition to the above he also plans to be QRV HF for SOTA throughout the week.

His day job is telecoms technician on an oil rig in the Irish Sea.[AP1] IO83GU, where he is QRV on 2M, on SSB, FM, and CW from the works QTH, with good path to EI and GI.


Stolen APRS Digi Equipment

The EI7BFB-2 APRS digi equipment was taken from the premises where the station was housed in Finglas, Dublin.

Taken in the theft were

1 x Toshiba Satellite laptop with Ubuntu Linux installed (This operating system is not a default installation on these laptops) 1 x Kantronics KPC-3+ 1 x Kenwood TM-251e 1 x Watson 13.8V 20A black dual meter PSU

The above was stolen on Sunday the 22nd of this month, at 23:23 (last APRS beacon datestamp).

The stolen equipment belongs to Bernard EI8FDB and Dave EI7BFB SYSOP of the EI7BFB-2 APRS digi in Finglas, Dublin.

GB2STI Special Event Station

The station will be on the air this year again from the Railway Preservation of Ireland base in whitehead Co Antrim on Sunday the 13th of September.

There will also be train rides on site as it is an open day for the railway preservation society. All QSL’s via the buro to Brendan gi0kpf.


Tipperary Amateur Radio Group

The next monthly meeting of the Tipperary Amatuer Radio Group will take place on Thursday next the 3rd September in Raheen House Hotel, Raheen Road, Clonmel at 8.00 pm All are Welcome.


Rallies

Cork Radio Rally

Plans are well underway for the Cork Radio Rally which will be held in the Montenotte Hotel Cork on the 13th September.

All the major traders will attend. There is also a special rate for those who wish to stay overnight. Just mention Cork Radio club Rally when booking.

Food will be available all day, parking available. Doors will open around 11am so come early and get that bargain.
