Silent Key EI2BL

We are very sorry to have to tell you of the death on Saturday last of Fr. Pacificus Jennings OFM. Cap EI2BL of the Capuchin Friary Creeslough, Donegal. His funeral took place on Tuesday last. In the late 1960's and early 70's Fr Pacificus was based in Raheney in Dublin and attended the Morse classes being run at that time in 91 Lower Bagott Street. He would have been well known to many of the older hands in the Dublin area where he obtained his licence in 1970. To his brother Anthony and to the Community at the Capuchin Friary, Creeslough we extend our deepest sympathy. May he rest in peace

Silent Key EI5BYB

Benjamin Rodriguez EI5BYB passed away on Saturday the 18th of March after a short illness and was buried on Wednesday the 15th at Calary graveyard in Co. Wicklow. He is survived by his wife Brigid and sons Benjamin and Miguel. Ben was very involved with amateur radio in Wicklow and South Dublin before his departure to live in Waterford. May he rest in peace.

IRTS Web Site

Continuing with a review of the new IRTS web site, this week we will have a look at the "links" pages. There are three main groups of links on the site:

The first group is called "Irish Links", and includes Clubs and Societies, some personal sites run by radio amateurs, photo galleries featuring contest stations in action, and finally some links to commercial sites relevant to radio amateurs. These links are well worth visiting, and cover topics ranging from antenna construction to early transatlantic radio experiments by the Marconi Company. Many of the personal sites run by radio amateurs also include details of their other hobbies and interests: maybe not very relevant to amateur radio, but they are fascinating to read, nevertheless!

The "National Societies and International Organisations" page has links to the web sites of over 70 national societies. These sites have a wealth of information about amateur radio activities around the world: worth a visit in any case, but particularly useful if you are planning a trip abroad.

Our third page of links is called "Miscellaneous Links". All of the sites on this page have an amateur radio theme; they include portals, sites with amateur radio software as well as links to manufacturers and distributors.

In addition to these 3 pages of links, we have, on the top right-hand side of each page, links to a summary of current solar data as well as an X-ray flare and geomagnetic storm monitor. Clicking on either of these links brings you to the web site of the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, where more detailed propagation information is available.

Awards

It's time again to call for nominations for the various awards and trophies presented on merit at the IRTS A.G.M. for service to the Society or to Amateur Radio. Clubs and individuals are asked for nominations of suitable persons to the Awards Committee. Please be reminded that there are two awards for constructions and an award for the SWL contest. Nominations to Peter Grant EI4HX, Chair Awards Committee @ QTHR or to "ei4hxperimental at eircom dot net" Nominees must be full Current members of IRTS!

Please note that the return of trophies is now overdue. Those currently holding trophies awarded at last years AGM are asked to return them to the awards manager as soon as possible.
