IRTS Radio News Bulletin Sunday February 30th 2003


Limerick Radio Club

The Limerick Radio Club would like to remind all that their rally will be held on Sunday next the 9th March in the Tiffany Suite, Greenhills Hotel, Ennis Rd, Limerick. There is ample free car parking and a licensed bar will be available all day in the room. This will be the largest rally seen in Echo India for many years and the list of traders is impressive, the following have confirmed their attendance.

Yaesu UK, Icom UK, Linear Amp UK, Long Communications, Southeast Communications, Cellcom Galway, AC DC Electronics Cork and Intouch Computers Limerick. All the other regulars will be present. Morse testing will also be available upon request. Icom UK will be launching their new IC 703 Fieldparty and this will its first time seen in Europe. Linear AMP will have a selection of amplifiers and handsfree headsets on display and Yaesu will have their latest products there.

Doors open at 1130 hrs and admission is €5. There will be a separate raffle for a Yaesu VX7R and they hope to be able to offer numerous spot prizes throughout the day. Tables are still available for the bring and buy. The Hotel is located on the Shannon side of Limerick just before the Coonagh Roundabout and a talk in will be available on the repeater. Those using the repeater are requested to leave regular pauses in QSO's to allow assistance for those who require same.

Region 5 Dinner

There are still a few tickets left for the Annual Region 5 Dinner at the Silversprings Hotel in Cork City on Friday March 14th next. The five-course meal will

only costs 25 Euro and bookings should be made with Dave EI4BZ as soon as possible.


Tipperary Radio Club

The next meeting of the Tipperary Amateur Radio Group will be held in the newly renovated Raheen House Hotel, Raheen Road, Clonmel on Thursday the 6th of March at 8 p.m.


South Eastern Amateur Radio Group

The 2003 Annual General Meeting of South Eastern Amateur Radio Group took place on Wednesday the 26th of February last. The new committee are as follows; Chairperson is Mark EI7IS, Vice Chairperson is Robbie EI8FZB and John EI8JA continues in the position of Secretary while Mick EI5DCB stays on as Treasurer. The three committee officers are Gareth EI7FZB, Eoin EI7FXB and Eddie EI9DJB.

The meeting was well attended and the election of officers was followed by a discussion on the clubs plans for the coming year.

Cork Radio Club

The Annual General Meeting of Cork Radio Club will be held on Monday night, March 10th at Wilton park House, Bishopstown in Cork City. All existing members are asked to attend. New members will be very welcome. The club meets every Monday night in Wilton Park house.


Dublin WAN Group

The next monthly meeting of the Dublin WAN group, who are part of the Irishwan wireless computer network, will take place on Saturday 29th of March at 2 p.m. It will be held upstairs in the Clarendon Pub on Clarendon Street. Clarendon Street is near the Gaiety Theatre and Saint Stephens Green in Dublin City Centre.

The meeting is open to members of the public that have questions about connecting to the Citywide Greater Dublin Wireless licence exempt computer network. For more details see the latest issue of Echo Ireland.


Packet Radio News

John EI8JA and Nicky EI3JB re-activated the WRC8 node on Mt. Leinster on the 15th of February last. The node is on 432.650 MHz. They also installed a 70 cm folded dipole donated by John EI3DIB.

While this Antenna is very small it was hoped it would provide usable working conditions between the EI3DIB BBS in Ardfinnan and the EI6EH Kells BBS and after 10 days in some very bad weather conditions it has been providing even better signals than expected between both BBS's with signals so far being equal to or better than previous. Reports are welcome by sending packet messages to EI3DIB @ EI3DIB.


Enniskillen Rally

The 22nd Enniskillen Amateur Radio Show, hosted by Lough Erne ARC, will be held in the Killyhevlin Hotel, Enniskillen, Co Fermanagh on Sunday 6th of April 2003. Information from Herbie, GI6JPO on 028-6638-7761 or h.graham@bigfoot.com.


EI Activity Day 2003

All EI stations are asked to make a special effort to get on the air for the annual EI Activity Day which this year is a three-day event, to be held from Saturday Match 15th to Monday 17th inclusive. EI stations are still in great demand by stations trying complete their Worked EI Counties Award and many overseas stations are also collecting Worked All Ireland Squares. Some years ago, clubs were very active in getting the rarer counties on the air. Maybe this effort could be repeated again this year.


Contests in the coming weeks

The ARRL DX SSB Contest takes place over 48 hours next weekend, March 1st and 2nd Conditions for the CW leg of this contest held last weekend were only fair and scores were a little down on previous years.
