IRTS Radio News Bulletin Sunday January 20th 2002


Tipperary Amateur Radio Group

Since the change of the news bulletin time in early December TARG are delighted with the response from experimenters and listeners around the country. The club have received a substantial increase in the number of reports to the IRTS radio news bulletin. Tipperary Amateur Radio Group would like to thanks all of their friends, old and new, for joining them at the new time. It is hoped that the new time is more convenient for all.

The IRTS news bulletin from Tipperary is broadcast on Sunday evenings at 8:30 pm on 145.450 MHz and simultaneously on 433.450 MHz.

Tipperary Amateur Radio Group would like to extend a Cead Mile Failte to the following new members: Irik EI/SP3SUX, Mike EI/G8JCD and Andy EI5JF.


Cork Radio Club

CRC club meetings and classes have now resumed after the Christmas break. The club would like to offer congratulations to the following members who received their new callsigns. Tom Whelton who was issued the callsign EI8FXB and Alan Bennett who was issued EI8FWB.


DXPedition from Temotu

Due to a large world-wide demand for Amateur radio activity from Temotu, the objective of this expedition is to put H40 into as many stations logbooks as possible, with particular attention to low bands and WARC operating CW and RTTY, and areas of the world with difficult propagation paths. The station will operate from March the 28th to April the 12th 2002.


Awards

Its that time of year again to remind everyone about the engraving and return of Trophies, for the next AGM. The AGM will take place on March the 3rd 2002 in the Belmont Hotel, Knock, Co. Mayo.


Mayo Radio Experimenters Network

The Mayo Rally will be held on Sunday March the 3rd 2002 in the Belmont Hotel, Knock. The IRTS AGM will be in the afternoon at the same venue, and the dinner dance will be on the Saturday evening. Details from Padraic EI9JA. E-mail rally@mayoren.net, or from the club web site at www.mayoren.net

E-mail addresses for the contacts in the Irish Radio Transmitters Society will from now on change on a regular basis. The purpose of this is to eliminate the huge amount of junk mail received by the society. Up to date addresses can be found on the society's home page at www.irts.ie

The Korean Amateur Radio League is QRV using Special Event call HL17FWC in celebration of the 17th FIFA World Cup until May 30. QSL via HL0HQ.

Solar News

The average daily solar flux and sunspot numbers for 2001, were very good for the year with lots of activity, considering that the peak was supposed to be in 2000.

Over the past week, average sunspot numbers were up 13 points, and average solar flux was about the same.
