Kieran McCrossan EI4A Silent Key

It is with great sadness we report the death of Kieran McCrossan EI4A who died on Thursday the 1st of February. At his funeral service in Naas, Co. Kildare there was a floral tribute done out with his call sign EI4A and at the offertory a Morse key was given up as a gift. Kieran was a pure gentleman and right to the end had all the time in the world for Amateur Radio. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.


Irish Amateur Television Club

The Irish Amateur Television Club in Association with the Microwave Society of Ireland will hold their second annual convention on May the 27th in Kells, County Meath. The event will kick off at 11 a.m. and talk-in will be on 144.750MHz. There will be live demonstrations on 23cms and 3cms using the EI2ATR and EI3ATR television repeaters. SSB on microwaves will be demonstrated and there will be information on whets need for working through Oscar 40. Test bench facilities will be available where you can set up your own equipment and ensure it is working properly. Trade stands will carry a full range of equipment for all the microwave bands. A bring and buy will also operate. For more information e-mail iatc@eircom.net South Dublin Radio Club Congratulations Nicki Molly EI1224 who took and passed the Morse test at the Coolmine Rally. Nicki is a member of South Dublin Radio Club and has been in the club's Morse class for the past few months. With the Morse under his belt, he is now concentrating on taking the theory exam.

A final reminder that the Annual General Meeting of South Dublin Radio Club takes place on Tuesday next, 13th February at the club's QTH in the Ballyroan Community Centre, Marian Road, Rathfarnham. All members are requested to attend.


IRTS Committee Meeting

The next committee meeting of the Irish Radio Transmitters Society will take place at 11.00 a.m. on Saturday the 24th of February in the Shamrock Lodge Hotel, Athlone.


Rally News

The date of the rally being held in Enniskillen by the Lough Erne Amateur Radio Club has been changed to 29th April - a week later than originally planned. Note that the original date is shown in the January-February edition of Echo Ireland, so remember that the rally is on 29th April and not as shown in Echo Ireland.

A reminder that Limerick Radio Club will hold their Radio and Electronics Fair and host the IRTS AGM in the Limerick Inn Hotel on April 7th – 8th 2001. All the usual traders will be in attendance and once again Yaesu UK will be there. They will have a large range of working equipment on display, included will be the FT 1000MP Mk V, Quadra HF Amplifier, the new FT 817 QRP Transceiver and many more.


South Eastern Amateur Radio Group

The Annual General Meeting of South Eastern Amateur Radio Group took place on Wednesday the 31st of January 2001. This meeting was exceptionally well attended and resulted in a number of new members joining the club on the night. The committee for 2001 is as follows; Chairperson is John EI8JA, Vice Chairperson is Gareth EI7FZB, Secretary is Mark EI7IS, Treasurer is Mick EI5DCB, P.R.O. is David EI7FYB and the following committee officers were elected; Nicky EI3JB, Eoin EI7FXB and Ian EI6GY. The club hopes that this year is as successful as the last. The next general meeting of SEARG will take place at 8.00pm on Wednesday the 28th of February at 8.00 p.m. in the Roanmore Centre, Cleaboy Waterford.


EI Activity Weekend

The EI activity weekend will take place again this year on March the 17th and 18th. Everybody can get involved in this event using any band and any mode, as the purpose of the event is to promote amateur radio in EI. This event went very well last year so lets hope that this year sees the same amount of activity on the air.
